The Samurai was a noble fighter in Japan during pre-industrial times and are legendary for their honor, devotion and skill in battle. The fearless fighters who were known as samurai were legendary armored swordsmen of Japan, known to many westerners only as a warri?or class, depicted in countless martial arts movies. It seems that many managers and personnel directors would like to see employees begin to mirror the traits of the great Samurai. Having worked for many years in the translation and interpretation industry, I am also curious how I could go about developing Samurai employees. But to be candid, I would not want any of my Samurai type of English to Korean Translation worker or Japanese Translator worker to bring a sword and armor suite with them to work. Instead, I am referring to the type of person who most of us in the field try to be like every day. For instance, a Samurai Translation worker is someone who is a master like no other in translation field and who puts forth the extra effort to succeed even if the consequence is great and while always displaying great courage. Because I love to write, I am going to put more of my thought to text in the following short article.
In pre-industrial Japan, the leaders were known at the samurai. As the warriors of Japan, the early samurai were inferior only to the nobility and the power of the nobility resided within the samurai. This great warrior class that were known as samurai and sometimes called bush had a secret verbal code. The non-verbal code of these historic Japanese warriors focused on moral behavior. The code of the Samurai can be summarized as placing high value of the duty, fairness in action, and in courage. Because this code likely originated from Confucianism, these same concepts of loyalty, devotion and honor are not only unique to the Japanese samurai, because they have spread throughout Asia. To engrain these values into the Samurai, the training programs were developed helped them to not fear death and to keep up the fight at all cost. This would be a tough code for anyone to follow, let alone a English to Japanese Translation worker because we have been forced into a life that demands all of the luxuries of modern living including McDonald’s, cell phones and pizza. In other words, it would be difficult to envision ourselves leaving our flat screen televisions, cell phones and wifi internet connections.
Wouldn’t it be great if all Legal Translation employees would try to model themselves after the great Samurai? The samurai felt that his sword held his soul, so it became the most important thing in his possession. As a result, the samurai can seize opportunity in the moments without being distracted. In effect, he reaches perfection and accuracy in everything he does. By learning to dominant each minute of the day, the great samurai warriors were able to capitalize. Thus, a Samurai should neither be pretentious nor egotistical.
