Getting Your Message To An International Audience

Published by leadershipskills at 7:06 am under Christian Leadership

Us business people are always looking for new streams of revenue; particularly in a downturn. One idea that’s becoming more popular is to target an international audience, and try to sell to them. By optimising your site in this way, you’re likely to bring a lot more customers (in possibly less competitive markets) to your offering.

Did you realise that there are now more non-native English speakers than there are native ones? The good news is that these people are obvious candidates to be new customers, since they should alread by able to understand your site.

But there is a slight problem here – many of those who speak English as a non-native language are still learning. Your sales pitch may therefore have to be cleaned up to make it more readable. It’s important to make sure then, that you optimise your website for those visitors. Be sure to keep your language simple and avoid using too much jargon or slang.

One other idea is to create a site that’s tailored for one paticular culture. You could call sites like these ‘localized’ sites. Why not include some information on your company’s involvement with the country in question, or show some kind of cultural affinity.

To go even further, a site that is serious about attracting customers in other countries could opt for a full site translation. Every page could be translated into a different language, though this is quite a costly and time-consuming exercise.

Possibly a better solution would be to translate only core parts of the webite, such as the introduction/landing page.Alternatively, you could focus on a language-specific email marketing campaign that stays in touch with your international audience and at the same time addresses them in the language they find easiest to understand.
