There are certain women called (or who refer to themselves as) feminists, who try to achieve equality of sexes in every aspect of life. Some people support them; some say that they merely waste their lifetime for foolish things. Are their ideas really worth applying in our life?
One of the most important reasons which cause these types of protests is the fact that women are paid less at their jobs merely because they are women. Or, it would be more correct to say – men are paid more simply because they are men. The real problem is that no one wants to admit this. Most people are that accustomed to it that they don’t care about the equity in this matter, while the administrations of most companies will never admit that they pay women less.

The thing is that many women just don’t want to be equal with men, with the exception of particular situations. It doesn’t mean that they don’t have their own point of view or that they are weak-willed or something. They are normal women, and mostly they are very independent and progressive ones. It’s just that you we don’t have to confuse male and female roles in our life. Equity is good speaking of the salary, but everyone forgets about equity when it comes to paying for dinner at a restaurant. Of course feminists would argue that they would like a society where, say, both woman and man pay for themselves in a restaurant. But what is the point of existence of two genders on our planet then? Obviously each has its destination and role. And equity of sexes is a matter of humaneness, not more.

Returning back to the situation with male superiority in the working places, I absolutely support feminism here. It is really sad that for performing the same job and the same set of responsibilities a man would be paid a lot more than a woman, and it’s even sadder that most women prefer to put up with this unfairness. Why is that so? In spite of all the great achievements of feminism the problem of male superiority still exists. During all her life every woman is indirectly told that she is inferior. Women by their nature are prone to compromise and take things easily, so no one wants to make great fuss out of this. They are simply feeling no enough support of the environment.

It is hard to say whether the situation is going to change in favour of feminists or not, but it is certainly changing right now in some direction. Only we can decide where it will lead us and what the consequences will be like. Who knows, maybe in some decades the situation will change so dramatically that there will be a problem of men being treated much worse than women?

Some businesses need big factories and warehouses. Texas has its share of large spaces. The Meat Packing District was home to more then 250 slaughter houses. Cattle and hogs would come off the boats to be walked through the streets and into the factories. (There are still active processing plants and cows and pigs can be seen wandering the alleys in the wee hours.) As many of the plants began to close down the area became rundown. During the 70’s it became renowned for drugs and the sex trade. It was not a place that most people wanted to reside. Space was available and the price was right. Many artists found the large windows and open rooms perfect for studio space. The price was right and the gritty neighborhood had an off beat charm.

After the initial reincarnation, a second incarnation developed. The Meat Packing District gave itself a new personality and a new meaning as it became the heart of gay nightlife. Many notorious clubs thrived in the large buildings and the area became an alternative cultural center changing the street dynamic. Businesses profited and the area was reinvigorated. The A.I.D.S. health crisis heavily impacted the activities , but the community continued to evolve.

Architects, fashion designers, photographers, graphic designers, discovered the neighborhood as a prime spot for artistic endeavors. In 2003 the meat packing district was registered as the Gansevoort Historic District. Gansevoortwas a revolutionary war hero who had a large open market in the area. Ganesvoort was also the grandfather of Herman Melville.

Currently the neighborhood, defined by Chelsea Market to the north and Gansevoort Street to the south, is a vibrant and fashionable location with old world charm and cobblestone streets. Fine restaurants abound, along with art galleries and fashionable living spaces. The Highline Park runs through a part of the neighborhood. The Highline Park is an innovative use for an abandoned elevated train track. It has been converted into a green space with paths and flowers above the city streets. Its presence adds to the charm of this once gritty slaughter yard and guarantees that the Meat Packing District will continue to develop into a trendy location.

Warehouse districts develop and transform over decades. Many cities have thriving historic districts that were once the center of the local industry. A Houston public warehouse or a Houston 3pl business might give way to a different neighborhood. That’s what occurred in many cities across the country. New York has the West Chelsea and the emerging Meat Packing District. Cleveland has a fashionable neighborhood in its old warehouse district. One of Dallas’s first jails was built in the district. It now houses lawyers who are who are using it, with some sense of irony, as an office. The settling of the area and its history as a trading hub would lead to major decisions that would transform what would be the West End of Dallas into a major industrial center.

The Texas & Pacific Rail Road laid tracks through the town and crossed the Texas Central Rail Road. This created a major distribution point and many warehouses were contructed. The West End became a major business area that thrived until after World War II when interstate highways and trucking led to a decline in the area. Becoming rundown, some visionary citizens came up with a plan for revitalization. Like so many warehouse districts, there existed the possibility for conversion and reassignment of use. Zoning restrictions limited the height of buildings in the area helping to save structures from demolition and replacement by high rises. The zoning also relegated the use of signage and lighting to enhance the historical charm of the area.

Dealy Plaza is located in the West End. It received unwanted notoriety in the 60’s with the s;aying of President Kennedy. Over the years several museums, including the JFK Memorial Museum, The Conspiracy Museum, and the American Museum of Miniature Museum have taken root. Many restaurants, galleries and shops reformed the district making it a destination. The West End Association, created with volunteers, work with the business community to develop plans to improve the district and give other destination neighborhoods a run for their money. The Taste of Dallas festival is held in the the district every July. The West End offers other festivals and concerts through out the year.

Warehouse districts across the country are often converted to exciting new uses. With foresight and vision, historic communities in decline can see new life and become beautiful and exciting neighborhoods. Old warehouse spaces offer great conversion opportunities for new restaurants, art studios, galleries, living spaces and stores. Plenty of warehouse districts are already transforming into revitalized centers as artists seek places with low rent and ample space. A smart development plan can capitalize on the changing function of a once vital part of the city. The West End in Dallas is a prototype for other cities looking to revitalize their downtown.

Now I am going to speak about the relation between beauty contests and feminism. Why do feminists tend to be against it? Their main argument is – the woman taking part in a beauty contest is merely an object of entertainment. And again, she walks in front of the judges who are mostly men and displays herself in front of them, letting them judge her by their prejudiced and subjective principles, as if the woman isn’t beautiful by herself and needs to be told about her beauty in such a contradictory way. This is where beauty contests are in disagreement with feminists, because in their opinion beauty contests display woman as a representative of inferior sex.

There have been discussions about banning beauty contests, but the latter aren’t actually doing any harm to anyone, that is why this request is unlikely to ever be accepted. Besides, the girls are taking part in these contests of their own free will, no one is making them do that.

Feminists claim that beauty contests show only one side of the feminine nature and casts false colour on the image of woman. Beauty is not everything a woman can be proud of, there are much more important things like being a good wife of her spouse, daughter of her parents and mother of her children.
